Swing dance is an umbrella term for a variety of dances including the Lindy Hop, Charleston, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Jive and Rock‘n’Roll. Ballroom Swing is one of the five competition dances in the American Rhythm ballroom dance category. It is similar to the International Latin Jive but the tempo is slower. It has a 6 beat pattern – a rock step and 2 triple steps. Swing dancing is a lot of fun and a very popular social dance. You can dance it to jazz and blues music of the 50’s and 60’s or to rock ‘n’ roll, ragtime, hip-hop, funk and pop.
