Rumba is a slow, sensual and romantic Latin-American dance of Cuban origin. The dance spotlights rhythmic body movements and hip actions, conveying scenes of flirtation and passion. American-style Rumba uses the Cuban motion which requires bending and straightening of the knee to achieve the desired hip-swaying movement. Basic rhythm is “slow, quick, quick”. International-style Rumba uses the Latin motion which requires the dancer to step on to a straight leg and does not utilize the bending of the knee as in the Cuban motion. Basic rhythm is “2, 3, 4-1”, where you move on 3 beats and hold on “1”.
